Sonny's Essential Supplements

It all started in the 1950s with a bad back and B-complex

From Sonny on July 2, 2003

There was an annual published about 10 years ago (now almost 20 years ago) by the New York Academy of Science listing many studies done world wide, relative to the advantage of vitamins in larger dosage than the minimum daily requirements which were set back in the 30s and based on preventing scurvy, beri beri and pellegra. They have not been updated since but we now take folic acid, B12 and B6 to prevent heart disease caused by high homocystein. Vitamin C minimizes colds by preventing allergic rhinitis.

No one does the studies because there is no money to be made and more to be made from cold remedies and expensive heart medication and surgery. One of the reasons I don't have any heart disease like my father died from and (others) is because I started taking B complex over 50 years ago for a rheumatoid back problem. This was confirmed by my ex boss from Montifiore hospital, doctor Doris Escher who still is in practice there at age 87. She also benefited for the same reason.

Doctor Mc Cauley who did the research on homocystein as the cause of heart disease[not cholesterol!] was blacklisted for thirty years before being exonerated and proved right. He still doesn't get full recognition because of the effect it would have on the drug industry! Many doctors feel that the statin drugs are of no value and cause more deaths due to liver cancer, congestive heart failure and other side effects and that they also inhibit the liver from making Co Enzyme Q10. The omega essential fatty acids which get so much publicity now were supposed to be Vitamin F, back in the thirties but were not thought important enough because dietary fat was being blamed at the time and to this day for obesity and many health problems when carbs are really the problem.

There is lots more!

Sonny
